Abstract

584,616. Liquid-fuel burners. LUCKHAM, P. M. Jan. 10, 1945, No. 884. [Class 75 (i)] In a liquid-fuel sprayer suitable for use in combustion turbines and jet propulsion plants the fuel is supplied under pressure through a duct 19 in a body 11 to an annular chamber 18 for discharge through an orifice 13 in a valve seat 12, the fuel passing through slots 17 in a sleeve 16 on the seat 12 and forcing a valve 21 inwards in a bore 22 in the body 11 against the resistance of a spring 26; the tension of which is regulated by a member 25 threaded in the bore 22 and formed with keyholes 31. The movement of the valve 21 is limited by a stop pin 24 threaded in the member 25, the thread of the pin 24 being of opposite hand to the external thread on the member 25. The head of the stop pin 24 is enlarged to fit the bore 22 and the rear end of the bore is sealed by the head of a screw 29 of opposite hand or different pitch from the stop pin 24. An axial duct 46 in the valve 21 allows fuel leaking past the valve 21 to pass to the orifice 13. The seat 12 is secured against a shoulder on the body 11 by a ring nut 15. The body 11 is surrounded by a casing formed in two internally threaded parts 34, 35, the part 34 being jointed to the fuel pipe 37 and the part 35 being formed with ports 43 for the passage of air to mix with the fuel spray discharged from the orifice 13. In another construction the fuel passes through a ball valve and a filter before entering the duct 19.
