577,176. Liquid-fuel burners. LUBBOCK, I., ANGLO-SAXON PETROLEUM Co., Ltd., JOYCE, J. R., and POWER JETS, Ltd. Aug. 11, 1942. No. 10252/41. [Class 75 (i)] [Also in Group XXIX] An orifice plate 5 formed integrally with a cylindrical vortex chamber 6 is secured by a screw cap 4 in a recess 1A at the forward end of the body 1 of a liquid fuel burner or other atomizing device. A valve 9A regulating the admission of the fuel to the vortex chamber through tangential ports 6A is operated by the fuel pressure on a piston 9B secured to the valve rod 9 against the pressure of a spring 10 abutting against a cap 7 at the rear of the burner. A filter 8 is fitted in the burner body through which the fuel entering at the inlet passes. Leakage past the piston 9B escapes by a spill passage 3. The movement of the piston-9B is limited in the forward direction by the engagement of a shoulder 9E on the valve rod with the chamber 6 and in the rearward direction by the engagment of the end of the valve rod with an adjustable abutment 7A on the cap 7. In another construction the valve rod is sufficiently flexible to allow for misalignment of the bores of the body 1 and the vortex chamber.
