Abstract

1287448 Fluid injector SPECTUS OIL BURNERS Ltd 3 Sept 1970 [8 Sept 1969] 34301/69 Addition to 1231631 Heading B2F [Also in Divisions F2 F3 and F4] A fluid injector, primarily for use as a spill burner spray nozzle (Divisions F3-4) in an oil fired boiler, includes a tip sealing valve assembly 8 (Fig. 5) for controlling fluid discharge through a discharge passage 11, the valve assembly 8 being responsive to a fluid differential pressure operative thereon to open or close the passage 11 in the discharge or non- discharge conditions respectively of the injector. The valve assembly comprises a tip sealing valve body 106 and a tip sealing valve pintle 114 with a spring 116 interposed between them and, in the non-discharge condition, fluid pressure and spring 9 cause the body 106 to compress the spring 116 against the pintle 114 so that valve tip 10 closes the passage 11 in atomiser assembly 2. In this non-discharge condition, shown in Fig. 5, there is a continuous circulation of fluid within the injector via passages in swirl plate 4 and distributor plate 5. On operation of a change-over valve (14) (Figs. 1-4, not shown) flow is reversed and most of the fluid supplied via duct 15 is discharged after the tip sealing valve has opened, shown in Fig. 6, the remainder of the fluid returning via passages in the tip sealing valve assembly 8 and central tube 7.
