845,785. Liquid fuel burners. HUTCHISON, G., WEIGHTMAN, R. C., ROSE, L., and NELSON, H., [trading as HUTCHISON & CO., G.]. Dec. 17, 1958 [Dec. 18, 1957], No. 39327/57. Class 75(1). In an oil burner including an oil feed tube surrounded by a pressurised heated air jacket in which the tube and the jacket have adjacent outlets delivering into an air/oil mixing passage leading into a burner element, the fuel oil is pre-heated in the tube and atomized by the heated air in the mixing passage before entering the burner element. In the arrangement shown an oil feed tube 1, provided with a jet orifice or nozzle 2 at one end and fed with fuel from a valve controlled pipe 4 at the other, is arranged within a jacket 6 supplied with pressurised heated air from a pipe 15. The heated oil issuing from the nozzle 2 passes with pressurised heated air into a mixing passage 10, where the oil is atomized, and thence to a burner 11 provided with radially arranged flame jets 12. The air is supplied from a pressure on cylinder 21 to the pipe 15 which pipe 15 passes through a combustion chamber 16 when it is heated by perforated gas tubes 18 or electrical means. The air to the tubes 18 is supplied from the cylinder 21 to a tube 23 where it is mixed with gas supplied to a surrounding jacket 24. A small pipe 30 by-passed from the air feed pipe 22 to the cylinder 21 provides cooling air to a cabinet surrounding the air heater.
