Abstract
805,902. Liquid fuel atomizers. WISTRA OFFENBAU G.m.b.H. July 2, 1956 [Aug. 1, 1955], No. 20437/56. Class 75(1) In an oil gasifying burner the pre-atomizer with multistage air supply and communicating coaxially with the fuel nozzle comprises an atomizing head provided with air nozzles and broadened internally in pear-shaped manner to 'have rounded walls narrowing in the direction of flow to communicate with a gasifying head provided with air nozzles and also broadening in pear-shaped manner so as to have rounded corner walls and having a larger internal space than the atomizing head, the two heads being supplied with air independently of one another. As shown in the drawing, an oil gasifying burner has a pear-shaped preatomizing head 2 coaxial with the fuel supply nozzle 4 and is provided with air nozzles 11 and narrows to communicate with the broad end of a pear-shaped gasifying head 3 also provided with air nozzles 13, 14 and of larger volume than the head 2 and the air is supplied to the head 2 through a conduit 23 so that it may be supplied at constant pressure and to the head 3 through a valve-controlled conduit 21 in order to operate with a sparse or excess supply of air as required. The outlet nozzles 8 and 9 are widened in the direction of flow. The air nozzles 13, 14 are distributed over the periphery of the gasifying head and are offset as to direction to effect a powerful whirling mixing of the mist entering through the nozzle 8 from the head 2. Air nozzles 15 in the outlet nozzle 9 are so inclined as to subject the flame issuing at 9 to a back-deflection to maintain the head 3 at a high temperature for gasifying the mist from the head 2. The internal diameter of the head 2 is approximately twice that of the nozzle 8 and the internal length l approximately 1.5 to 2 times the diameter of the nozzle 8. The internal diameter of the head 3 is three times the diameter of the nozzle 9 and the internal length L of the head 3 is about 4.5 times the diameter of the nozzle 9, and L/l = 3. The head 2 is formed by part of an internal casing 5 and of the end head 6 of the oil supply nozzle 4. The head 3 is formed in part by the casing 5 on to which the other part is fitted by means of a stepped recess 10. A narrow annular space 20 for the supply of additional air is formed between the narrowest part of the nozzle head, i.e. aperture 19 and the nozzle 9. The inner casing 5 is connected to the outer casing 1 by a flange 24 provided with a collar 25 secured on a tubular casing 26 provided with the air feed conduit 23 and secured in turn to an end pipe 27 having the oil feed conduit 30 and an oil regulating member 31 carried by a plug 32 and formed with a longitudinal bore 35 closed externally by a plug 34 which can be removed to allow the pipe 4 to be cleaned by means of a wire.
