Abstract

196,380. Elston, B. Jan. 23, 1922. Spray carburettors. - A stream - line shaped plug d is actuated by a Bowden wire g or by rigid links to vary the air passage at the annular fuel nozzle to which fuel is distributed uniformly around the circumference by channels c<1> in the underside of a plate c. The plug carries a casing h<2> containing a plunger h<1> adapted to be actuated independently by a Bowden wire h<3> and carrying a fuel needle valve h to control an orifice in a disc k. At its upper end the plug is guided by a tubular part i<2> depending from a bridge piece i supported by three studs j. The choke tube is formed by the parts b, c and is separable at its narrowest part. An extension d<2> of the plug d is bored to allow of the passage of the wire g and to receive a stem e<2> of a piston e to which the wire is secured. The piston serves to balance the suction on the plug d and, when the wire g is released, to descend to the bottom of the casing a<2> and admit air only to the engine through ports a<3>, a<4>, the fuel being shut off. The piston may be formed integrally with the rod d<1> which would then slide in the lower part of the plug d. The space around the choke tube b may receive hot water or exhaust gases for heating.
