Abstract

196,352. Charles, L. A. Jan. 18, 1922. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In injection devices of the kind wherein the products of a secondary explosion in an auxiliary chamber are used to inject the fuel, the fuel injector through which the said gases pass to the cylinder comprises a tubular chamber communicating with the said auxiliary chamber by means of a tube at one end, and having a valved outlet to the cylinder at the other end, the fuel being introduced at a point intermediate between the inlet to the said tubular chamber and the cylinder. During the compression stroke air passes into the auxiliary chamber 2 through the check valve 3 and/or the injection valve 8, this air being burnt with fuel introduced through the pipe 4. The resulting products inject fuel supplied along the passage 7 during the injection period.
