Abstract

Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In engines working with self-ignition of fuel injected under pressure and having at least two cylinders a, b connected bv a duct or ducts k through which or through one of which, towards the latter part of the compression stroke, air is expelled from the combustion space h of one cylinder to that i of another, the duct is provided with a constriction m and the fuel injection device n is so disposed that the stream of transferred air carries fuel through the constriction. The fuel injection may take place in front of the constriction and even in the space h but at the latest it must encounter the air stream whilst passing the constriction. An additional fuel inlet may be provided, for example, at o. The invention is applicable to engines with cylinders parallel to or in line with each other.
