Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - In a Diesel engine of the kind in which fuel is injected by compressed air, whirling of the combustion air is promoted by a. baffle on the air inlet valve. By this means a smaller quantity of compressed air is required and a smaller compressor may be used. The injection takes place through three equally-spaced diverging orifices 1.
