Open fire-places. -A fire - place having a boiler, a rear flue controlled by a damper, and an adjustable canopy, is so constructed as to require no brickwork setting and may stand out in a room. The boiler b forms the lower part of the fire-back, and is supported on ledges 7, so as to be removable from the front of the fireplace, and provide a flue 9 beneath it t h r o u g h which smoke &c. may pass round the boiler. A damper 21 and a completely closable canopy 17 control the rear and front flues respectively. The fire-back comprises a forwardly-inclined slab 16 and a rearwardly inclined metal plate 18. The top 14 of the fire-place forms a hot-plate, and has a spigot for a stove pipe.
