Open fire-places; air, moistening.-An open fire-place is provided with an air-heater in three sections, namely, an intake section C resting on the hearth A<3>, an uptake section D, and a delivery section E with a valve E<5> controlling the passage of air to the room. The section D may be made wholly or partly of fire-clay or like material; as shown it consists of a front wall D<1>, which may be ribbed back and front, and a rear wall D<2> of sheet iron fitted to the brickwork setting. The part C may be of cast iron, and may support the grate A<1>, which may, however, be secured to the sides of the fireplace. The part E may be of sheet-iron, and surrounds the throat of the chimney.
