Abstract

162,403. Smith, T. O. Jan. 31, 1920. Air-heating apparatus for use with fire-places.-An air-heating device adapted to form a permanent or temporary fitting to an existing fire-place comprises a fuel-basket a to which is bolted a body part b, having an integral flue c. The fuel-basket a is provided with a front grid h and is elevated at the back at i, a specially-shaped fire-brick being fitted in the recessed part k. The body b and flue c are formed from one sheet of metal, the upper portion being turned inwards and the edges n secured together by bolts or the like, and the lower portion being bent outwards on the lines o to form lateral flanges p overlapping the fire-place at each side. A plate f, having a hole to accommodate the flue c, is fitted in the chimney-opening, thus preventing all draught passing up the chimney and - causing the air, which, entering through the spaces e, is heated in the chamber d, to flow out into the room through openings g. The plate f is provided with a hit-and-miss or like ventilator, and a removable ash-pan x<1> is adapted to slide between the feet v which support the fuelbasket.
