Oct. 18, 1920 Open fire-places; grates; outlets to chimneys.- In open fire-places of the type which is adapted to heat either of the rooms on each side of the division wall in which it is located, a rotary casing containing the grate is suspended from above and provided with guides preventing displacement at the lower end. The fireplace shown comprises a rotary outer casing 6 in which are arranged the fire-brick back, sides, and bottom 1, 2, 3 of the grate. The conical top 7 of the casing is provided with rollers 12 running on a circular track 13 carried by an angle-iron frame built into the brickwork. The bottom plate 5 is flanged as at 5<a> to form cylindrical segments which lie within corresponding guides 17, which are held together in correct relation by rods 18. An extension 7<1> of the conical top 7 rotates in a depending casing 8 which forms an extension of the flue 9. The portion of the casing 8 in which the part 7 fits may be made in two halves to facilitate erection. A detachable cover 6<1> at the rear of the casing 6 is provided with perforations 6<a>, 6<b>, air being heated in the casing and circulating in the room not directly heated by the fire.
