Abstract

334,662. Wood, H. H., and Newton, Chambers, & Co., Ltd. July 17, 1929. Open fireplaces; grates; boilers, arrangement of. - An open fireplace, of the type in which a flue 6 is formed at the rear of a depending partition 8, a damper 13 being provided to cause the gases to pass either in front of or behind this partition to the chimney, comprises a fuel support having a back 2, or a back and sides, sloping down to a horizontal base 3, a front grate 4 carried by supports 16 and sloping upwardly from the front edge of the base, and a removable ornamental front bar 17 .enclosing the front edge of the grate 4. The partition shown consists of firebricks 9, 10 carried in recesses 11 in the sides of the fireplace. The lower brick 10 may be removable for substitution in case of wear, for which purpose the recess 11 may be of greater width than the thickness of the brick to accommodate a removable packing piece. A boiler may take the place of the firebricks 9, 10.
