Abstract
377,114. Open fireplaces. KEMPTON, C. H., Stangate House, Westminster Bridge Road, London, and BISSELL, W., 8A, Castle, Warwick. Feb. 5, 1932, No. 3491. [Class 126.] In an open fireplace for burning coke or like fuel, and provided with a gas burner 28 for igniting it, the bottom grate 19 is pivotally mounted at or near its rear edge, so that it may be raised and lowered to agitate the fuel, and comprises at the front forwardly extending bars or fingers 22 which are attached to the rear portion 23 but unattached at the front. The burner apertures 29 are directed between the bars 22 so that the flames are not obstructed. The rear portion 23 of the grate may be solid, as shown, or slotted or perforated. The grate is operated by a forwardly-extending lever 27, and is supported in its normal position by a stop 24 with which the lever contacts. A half bearing 18 supporting one of the grate pivots allows the grate to be removed. Fuel-supporting projections 25 may be provided on some or all of the bars 22.
