Abstract

7505. Schmidt, W. April 16, 1910, [Convention date]. U-tube superheaters; dampers for controlling superheaters; tempering furnace gases for superheaters.-In the boiler shown, the furnace gases pass upwards through flues K, L formed by water-tube walls D and containing the generating - tubes C, and then pass successively through the flues M, Q containing steam-superheaters and feed-water heaters P respectively. Apertures F at the top of the boiler, normally closed by plates H, may be opened during forced heating-up to allow air to enter the superheaterflues. In a modification, a damper is fitted at the top of a superheater to allow part or the whole of the gases to pass directly into the feed-heater flue, which is provided with a partition to prevent the direct escape of the gases to the uptake. A superheater consists of U- shaped or sinuous tubes connected to a partitioned drum, which is arranged parallel to the boiler drums and at the outlet of the superheater flue.
