Abstract

212,779. Martin, J. May 4, 1923. Dampers for controlling superheaters.-In a steam generator of the type having two upper and two lower drums a, - d, connected by crossed tubes e, f and downcomers g, h, the superheater are arranged in flues symmetrically at both sides of the drums and at one end of t'he boiler, and are separated from flues containing the air heaters k and the feed-water heaters l by suspended walls m formed of steel lattice-work filled with fire-resisting material. Hollow beams n carrying the walls m are open at one end and have vent pipes o at the other. The downcomers are omitted in front of the superheater flues. The gases flow partly as shown on the left of the Figure into the flues i and thence by openings p to the flues k, l, and partly as shown on the right of the Figure into the flues k, l. Ash strainers tare placed near the change of direction of the gases. Dampers q, r control the flow of gases through the flues i, l. The flues i, k, l are closed at the top by the headers.
