Superheating by gases other than furnace gases; dampers for controlling superheaters. - In a waste heat boiler having a superheating-chamber in the path of the heating gases before they enter the boiler proper, the superheating tubes are placed in an annular space 3 between the casing 2 and an inner wall 6, and dampers are provided to direct the gases wholly or partly through the annular space into the boiler proper. The direct passage of gases to the boiler tubes 1 is regulated by a damper 9. When the damper is closed, the gases pass through an opening in the wall 6 controlled by dampers 10 into and through the annular spaces 3, from which they pass into the boiler tubes through an opening in the wall 6 controlled by dampers 11. At starting, the dampers 10, 11 are closed and the damper 9 opened. In a modification, the gases enter at the bottom of the shell, and upper and lower dampers extend the whole length of the inner wall. The lower set of dampers controls the passage of the gases either into the annular space or directly into the boiler tubes. Specifications 12910/04 and 27761108 are referred to.
