185,789. Pollak, J. E., (Meyrel, Geb.). May 4, 1921. Whistles.-In a motor-car whistle, hooter &c. mounted direct on the combustion chamber of the engine operated by a Bowden wire, the valve stem a passes through the soundpipe f of the whistle, and the Bowden wire cover h is fastened at g at the top of the whistle. The Bowden wire is clamped to a lug k, which is rigidly attached to the valve stem a, the wire being so arranged as to pull and not push. The valve stem, by means of a pin x, actuates a dash-pot y for varying the pitch of the sound produced. Gases from the engine cylinders pass over the surface of the plug v, and through the chamber r, radial passages m and annular passage n, and impinge on the sound-pipe f, which can be screwed up or down by means of the lug g in order to adjust the initial pitch of the sound.
