Abstract
164,548. Tulloch, T. G., and Smith, D. J. March 23, 1920. Producers.-The exhaust gases from an internal-combustion engine fed with producer gas are used wholly or partly to replace the air and steam from the vaporizer when the engine is running light. A gas-producer A is supplied with air and steam from a vaporizer B through a pipe E and has a gas-outlet pipe C leading to an internal-combustion engine, the exhaust pipe G<1> of which leads to a silencer G and has a branch H leading to the ash-pit A<3> of the producer. Valves D, F, H<1>, and G<2> in the gas-outlet pipe, steampipe, branch exhaust pipe, and main exhaust pipe respectively are interconnected and operated by a single lever J, so that when the gas to the engine is reduced by closing the valve D, the valves F and G<2> are closed and the valve H<1> opened, thus employing the exhaust gases in the producer. The valves F, H<1>, G<2> may be adjusted independently.
