Producers.-In a carburetted water gas set, oil gas is obtained by passing separate streams of a hydrocarbon fluid through the generator and through the carburettor, the hydrocarbon fluid being cracked during passage through the heated fuel bed, and the gas withdrawn separately from that formed in the carburettor and superheater. The fuel bed 2 of the generator 1 is blown with air, and the carburettor 12 and superheater 17 heated by the blast gases. Hydrocarbon gas is admitted through inlet 6 and cracked in the fuel bed, or oil may be admitted through inlet 8, the gas obtained passing out through outlet 9. Gas or oil is simultaneously supplied by pipes 14 or 13 to the carburettor 12, and the cracked oil or oil gas passes through the superheater 17 to the outlet 22 steam being supplied through pipe 15 to assist its passage, and the resultant gas is subsequently mixed with the gas from the generator. A small amount of the re-formed gas from the fuel bed may be sent through valve 25 or 27 to carry the oil vapours through the carburettor and superheater, instead of steam from pipe 15. This may be followed by an upward passage of - hydrocarbon gas through the generator, and this gas may be led out through an outlet 28 or passed through the carburettor and superheater when it may be carburetted with oil from pipe 13. At intervals, steam is passed through the fuel bed to produce water gas from the deposited carbon unconsumed by the air blast, and this water gas may be carburetted in the usual way, and mixed with the gases previously referred to.
