Revolving-cylinder pumps.-In a revolving- cylinder pump or air-compressor, the short pistonrods g<1>, g<2>, g<3> are rigidly connected together by bolts i and slide transversely on gudgeon pins k, one rod g<2> being straight and the others bent to lie respectively on the right and left sides of it. The piston-rod ends are formed to enclose a false hub h mounted on ball bearings j on the stationary eccentric pin f. The central space between the pistons communicates by a pipe n with the pump suction l to counterbalance the effects of centrifugal force, the pump delivery being at m. The false limb h and bearings j may be dispensed with, or the piston-rods may be rigidly attached to the eccentric pin which then rotates in bearings formed in the pump casing a. The piston-rod ends may be of T-section sliding in corresponding slots formed transversely in the piston, or the pressure between the piston-rod and piston can be more evenly distributed by providing an extension on the rod to engage a flat surface provided inside the crown of the piston.
