Rope grips.-Comprises a load-actuated grip for single-cable aerial ropeways in which gripping levers f, g pivotally connected at h are operated by an antifriction roller o on the carrier frame, so that vertical movement of the carrier relatively to the supporting ,and hauling rope e causes the jaws to gnip the rope, while when the carrier is supported by a shunt rail or rope d the jaws are opened positively by means which serve also to retain the jaw levers in the carrier. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the levers are formed with surfaces f<3>, f<4> acted upon by the roller o, and are guided in a box a<1> of the carrier by lugs f<7>, g<7>. The release of the rope is effected by means of stops m, n in the box acting on surfaces f<5> of the levers. The, stop n is removable so that the jaws may be inserted. In the form shown in Fig. 12 the roller o is below the pivot h and the levers are crossed. The jaws are opened and the levers retained in the box bv extensions. at the top ends of the levers engaging the edges of the box. Modifications are described in which (1) the stops m, n, Fig. 3, are replaced by adjustable screws; (2) the jaws are opened to release the rope, by means of a spring connecting the top ends of the levers, these ends being so curved or recessed that when brought together by the spring they enclose the roller o and support the jaws, and (3) two rollers o are employed, one acting on each lever. Adjustment for wear and for various ropes may be effected by using rollers o of different sizes. The grip may be mounted in a separate box pivoted to the carrier box a<1> about a horizontal pivot transverse to the rope. The carrier a, Fig. 1, may be provided with a grip at one end and a support s at the other, as shown, or may have a grip at each end.
