Abstract
226,283. Holt, H., and Price, Ltd., E. L. Sept. 20, 1923. Rope grips.-In rope grips for the carriers of aerial ropeways of the kind in which the pressure exerted on the hauling rope varies with the inclination of the rope on which the carrier travels, an arm 14, attached to the movable jaw 13 of the grip extends through a vertical slot in the frame and supports a three-armed member 20, 21, 22 carrying the load which can swing in the direction of travel of the apparatus. The load-carrying member 23 is pivotally connected to the arm 20. One of the stops 25, 26 limits the movement of the adjacent arm 21, 22 when the carrier travels on a gradient exceeding a predetermined inclination and causes an increase of pressure on the rope. A roller 24 on the arm 20 runs on to a shunt rail at the point where the.grip is to be released In a modification the movement of the arm 30, Fig. 3, supporting the load is limited by.angle levers 31, 32, each of which has a horizontal arm bearing on the top of the hanger arm 30 and a downwardly-directed arm. The latter arms are sufficiently far apart to permit the release of the rope by raising the arm 30 and rocking the horizontal arms upwards.
