Abstract

Safety retaining-mechanism.-The load carrier of an aerial ropeway is suspended from the trolly frame by a pivotal suspension normally held in a raised position by the pull of the haulage rope and when pulled downwards on breakage of the rope presses a pair of brake shoes into contact with the carrying rope by means of linkage. The trolly frame a has wheels b running on the carrying rope k and in its lower part is formed with a slot p having near its upper end a notch 2. The load carrier r has a U-shaped supporting strap q mith a pin g in its upper end, the pin being adapted to slide in the slot p and to be normally held in position in the notch 2. The hauling rope y is connected to one end of an arm s pivoted to the trolly frame at its other end v and having a slotted extension u engaging the pin g and normally keeping it in position in the notch 2. A pair of links h are pivotally mounted on the pin g and are pivotally connected at their other ends to links i centrally slotted and connected by a pin l mounted on the frame. The links are guided in the trolly frame by pin-and-slot connections o and carry at their upper ends brake shoes t which on breakage of the haulage rope are engaged with the carrying rope by the release and downward movement of the load carrier and the consequential extension of the linkage mechanism.
