Abstract

179,286. Schlee, E. Feb. 1, 1921. Spray carburettors. - Main and pilot jet orifices are provided, the fuel supply to each being mixed with " braking " air before being sprayed into the main air current, the main and pilot fuel jet nozzles and the braking air jet nozzle being contained in an easily removable jet holder. Fuel from an annular float chamber passes through one or more orifices 15 to a chamber 22, and thence either through a jet-nozzle 6 and chamber 11 to the main spraying-nozzle 2 or through a passage 16 and jetnozzle 8 to the pilot orifice 17. Air from near the top of the space above the fuel in the float chamber is supplied to the chamber 11 by a hole 14, jet-nozzle 7, and conduit 9, and from near the fuel level by a hole 18 and passage 19 to the pilot supply passage 16. The passage 19 may direct a counter-current into the passage 16. The jet nozzles 6, 7, 8 are contained in the jet-holder 5, which may be removed to exchange the nozzles without immediately stopping the engine. The throttle valve b has one wing a at an angle to give, in the nearly closed position, an air space. f near the pilot orifice, above which is a musselshaped mixing-chamber c.
