Abstract

173,801. Bingham, G. C. July 19, 1920. Drawings to Specification. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-Exhaust gases are compressed in a pump and used to inject the liquid fuel into the cylinder. The compressionpump piston may be a continuation of the engine piston, or the pump and cylinder may be side by side. Various valved and valveless injection passages are described. Products of combustion may at starting be generated in the pump by inducing carburetted air and igniting it by the heat of compression. The invention is described in connection with both two and four-stroke cycle engines.
