Abstract
171,093. Marechal, P. J. C. Nov. 6, 1920, [Convention date]. Balancing moving parts. - Relates to thrustbalancing devices of the fluid-leakage type. for taking up variations in the axial thrust of a turbine, centrifugal pump, or the like, applicable either direct to the rotor, which may be fitted in addition with known balancing-devices, or to a separate balancing-disc keyed to the shaft. A variable-pressure chamber p<2>, Fig. 1, is formed between the rotor 1 and the casing, the resistances of the inlet and outlet passages 2, 3 thereof varying inversely to one another for the same axial movement of the rotor and one at least of these passages is formed by two adjacent cylindrical surfaces parallel to the axis of the rotor and covering each other partially in the normal balancing position of the rotor, so that the edges of the surfaces can only escape from each other after a certain axial movement of the rotor. Modified forms of the leakage passages 2, 3 are described, for example. one surface may be continuous and the other broken. Fig 4 shows a rotor passage 10 registering more or less with a stator passage 11.
