Abstract

534,635. Rotary engines &c. McCLEAN, R. H., and COLEMAN, S. L. C. Sept. 7, 1939, No. 25349. [Class 110 (ii)] In an inclined disc engine, the axis 13 of the disc 65 is fixed and the casing rotates. The axis 13 is an oblique crank in a fixed shaft 12 and the casing is supported on that shaft by roller bearings 28, 41. A hollow shaft extension 26 of the oasing has a further bearing 31 and carries a felt pulley 35. The casing rotates within a stationary outer casing 1, is provided with labyrinth packing 85 and has outlet ports 81 which are periodically obturated by bosses 83 on the stationary walls 3. One inlet is at 73 and leads to a vaned spider 42 forming part of the casing. The other inlet 75 leads to a similar spider 40 and an intermediate chamber 76 surrounding the shaft 26 has a stuffing box 78. The disc 65 is slotted to embrace the diametrically opposite partitions 56 and carries rollers 89 which run on the surfaces of the latter. To allow for the varying angle between the disc and the partitions, the latter are made of varying thickness as shown in Fig 3.
