Abstract

566, 632. Stuffing - box substitutes. AUSTIN MOTOR CO., Ltd., and HAEFELI, J. C. June 26,1943, No. 10364. [Class 122 (v)] Means for preventing entrance of dirt into, or egress of oil from, a casing B along a rotating shaft &c. passing therethrough, comprises a screw-thread E on the shaft arranged to propel oil inwardly of the casing, and surrounded with clearance by a ring F secured against rotation, but having freedom of radial movement. A packing ring K may be secured to the casing to bear on the shaft. In a modification, the floating ring has an internal screw-thread and surrounds a plain surface on the shaft.
