Abstract
734,024. Dynamometers. HEENAN & FROUDE, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1953 [Sept. 11, 1952], No. 22779/52. Class 106 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] In a hydraulic fluid absorption dynamometer, Fig. 1, the stationary power absorbing vanes l on the carcase are disposed between the power absorbing vanes a of the rotor, each half rotor a having thrower surfaces which prevent or retard the escape of working fluid from the casing. Working fluid is admitted to the dynamometer through holes in the stationary vanes l. Non-contact seals or labyrinths e are arranged to reduce the axial flow of liquid along the shaft, any such liquid being eventually thrown off by throwers to drain off spaces h. The outside flat surface of each half rotor a remote from the stationary power absorbing vanes l is formed with radial vanes d, comprising said thrower surfaces, to resist flow of fluid away from the dynamometer. Figs. 9 and 10 show a method of giving access to the interior of the dynamometer. The stationary vanes l are split on the line l1, each half being attached to an inspection cover p bolted to the casing. By removing these covers the interior of the dynamometer is exposed to view.
