Abstract

565,714. Dampers. LOEWENHEIM, E. May 19, 1943, No. 7955. [Class 31 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] A damper unit of the kind in which one or more swivelling or pivoted dampers are arranged in association with a supporting frame adapted to be introduced into and removed from a flue through a slit or other form of opening with which a removable cover co-operates, is associated with resilient or flexible packing material permitting relative expansion between the unit and flue. As shown in Fig. 1, the damper frame 1 is provided with pivoted dampers 2 having flexible sealing strips at their edges as described in Specification 551,365 and actuated by shafts 14 and gearing 15,.16. The damper frame may be provided with ventilating shafts 6, 6a to provide cooling means for the bearings and accommodation for the actuating means. Resilient packing material 11,12 is arranged at the sides and top of the frame which is provided with a cover-plate 9. The damper frame may rest on the bottom of the flue or be suspended from ledges at the top. Figs. 6 and 7 show alternative means for sealing the frame, comprising, as shown in Fig. 6, packing material 23 between the steel plate flue wall 24 and ventilating shaft 25 and a plate 22 riveted to the damper frame. In the modification shown in Fig. 7, flexible flaps 26 are attached to the plate 22 and seal the ventilating shaft 27 from the flue.
