Abstract

297,485. Master, S. D. May 23, 1927. Fixed-abutment type; valve gear; valves, distributing and cut-off; packing drums. vanes, abutments, and the like.-Arcuate-shaped piston vanes 9 pivotally mounted in a rotor 11 eccentrically situated in a fixed casing are maintained in contact with the casing by a guide ring or rings 8 rotatably mounted within or about the casing. The ring 8 may rotate in a groove formed between flanges 5 which secure the divided halves 4 of the casing and may run on ball or roller bearings. The ring 8 or an additional ring 49 may be formed with ports 50, Fig. 10, to enable a cut-off working to be obtained which may be varied by opening suitable valves 54 or by an additional apertured ring manually adjusted to co-operate with the rotating ported ring. The rotor 11 may pass through the casing and covers 12, suitable packing 25 being provided. The vanes are fitted with packing strips and the point of contact of the rotor and casing is packed by a hollow rockable abutment 43, Fig. 9, through which oil is supplied as described in Specification 166,786. The vanes may be externally linked to a flywheel rim 78, Fig. 19.
