Movable-abutment type; balancing moving parts; packing vanes; valves, distributing and cut-off.-In a rotary engine having hinged abutments b, Fig. 4 and 5, co-acting with a tapered vane k carried by a rotor disk r, the steam is led by pipes h, h<1>, Fig. 1, to the opposite inlet ports c through ports l, l<1> in the disk r, Fig. 6, which thereby acts as a cut-off valve. Holes mare formed in the disk r to equalize lateral pressure, and the vane k is packed by steam-pressed rings j, Fig. 5, or pivoted pieces o, Fig. 10.
