Abstract

367,398. Rotary engines. TACCHI, P. G., Cottage Hotel, Bracklesham, near Chichester, Sussex, and NEVILLE, E. MAYER-, 12, Freeland Road, Ealing, London. Oct. 20, 1930, No. 38761/29. [Class 110 (ii).] Movable - abutment type.-In a rotary engine with rotors having continuouslv i n t e rmeshing teeth and in which working fluid is supplied on each rotor to the spaces 23 enclosed between adjacent teeth of the same rotor from a conduit coaxial with one rotor, the fluid passes from the conduit to the enclosed spaces through passages in one of the rotors. In the form of engine shown, one rotor 4 is keyed on an external drive shaft 8, whilst the other rotor 5 rotates around two nested sleeves 11, 14 provided with axially-extending ports with which register axially-extending rotor ports 20, 21 which open to the tooth crests and hollows respectively, so that working fluid is supplied to the enclosed expanding spaces 22, 23 formed on each rotor between the adjacent teeth of one rotor. The teeth may be cycloidal. The fluid exhausts by a passage 24. The two sleeves have external handles for varying the point of admission and cut-off and for reversing, the fluid exhausting by a passage 24<1> on the reversal. When arranged for internal combustion, compressed air is supplied through the sleeves and fuel is injected at the point midway between the two rotor axes. Relative adjustment of the rotor axes is effected by inserting distance packing between the upper and lower halves of the casing. Relief valves are provided to release the pressure between the rotors before the admission of the working fluid. The two exhaust passages may lead in the casing to a common exhaust duct provided with a valve to connect the required passage therewith. One rotor may be flanged to enclose the teeth of the other rotor. The casing may be lagged. Specification 124,284, [Class 110 (ii), Rotary engines &c.], is referred to.
