Fixed-abutment type; valve-gear.-A cylindrical drum with double hinged vanes pressed outwards by steam pressure to run against the concentric casing, has ports through which steam enters and exhausts from the cylinder, the direction of the steam being determined by a reversing-valve 23 which supplies steam to either passage 18, 18<1>. Cut-off valves 28 control the expansion of the steam; and exhaust takes place through the other passage 18, 18<1> and the port 23<1>. The hinged vanes 16 are forced outwards by steam from the auxiliary port 32<1>. The abutments have a convex central portion, and concave side portions which merge into the inner face of the cylinder casing.
