Abstract
22,762. Lorraing J. G., [Dibbell, G. A.]. Oct. 15. Movable-abutment type with rotary abutments. Relates to the construction and valve-gearing of a simple or compound rotary steam - engine. In a casing A, B, C, of the form shown, revolve three drums 6, 7, 2 the drums 6, carrying vanes 5 adjustable by means of screws 48. The drum 2 is formed with a recess 4 which engages with the pistons 5 as they pass the point of contact of the drums. Packing-rings provided with adjusting-screws are placed between the drums and one end of the casing. Pinions 10, 11, 12 are attached to the shafts 8, 9, 3 of the drums so that they rotate at the same speed. Other drums working at low pressure in the casing A<2>, B<2>, C<2> may be fixed on the shafts 8, 9, 3. Steam is supplied through the ports 14, 14<a> and exhausted through the ports 15, 15<a>, or conversely, by means of the valve shown in Fig. 7. The steam enters by a pipe 25 and, when the valve is in the position shown, passes by a groove 32 in the top thereof to the pipe 42 and thence to the ports 15, 15<a>. From the ports 14, 14<a> it passes by the pipe 43, the passage 44 in the valve, and the pipe 45 to the low-pressure casing. Returning by the pipe 46, it passes by the gap 47 to the exhaust pipe 26. The engine can be reversed by turning the valve.
