Abstract

29,754. Marsden, J. Dec. 31. Fixed - abutment type with piston having outwardly-sliding vanes. Three spring - pressed outwardly - sliding vanes i are arranged in slots in a piston drnm g, and are kept in position by a cover-plate i<1>. The working chamber consists of a tapered groove o formed in a ring n bolted to the outer casing a, and is divided by a fixed abutment f from which the vanes recede as they pass. The vanes are actuated by a cam l which engages rollers m fixed to the vanes. The admission of motive fluid from the steamchest b to the engine is controlled by either of two valves c, d, according to the direction of rotation required. Exhaust takes place through a port t. The cam l has to be tilted according to the direction of rotation ; this is effected by a lever p. The ring n is formed with lips which run adjacent to similar lips on the piston drum, thereby packing the working chamber. The motive fluid is admitted to the steam-chest by way of a port r.
