Abstract

428,026. Centrifugal pumps. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Nov. 26, 1934, No. 33941. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1933. [Class 110 (i)] A centrifugal pump and turbine are arranged on the ends of a centrally supported shaft, the axial thrust being balanced by fluid pressure chambers i, k on each side of the pump impeller. The chambers i, k are connected by passages l, m to the discharge and by passages o, n to the suction. An axial movement of the impeller diminishes the size of one of the chambers and causes a consequent increase in fluid pressure which tends to restore the impeller to its original position.
