Stays. - A strut a for supporting a cabinet lid, skylight, or other hinged member c in the open position by the engagement of a notch d with a fixed pin e is provided with a pawl member f which is pushed aside by the pin, so as to uncover the slot d, as the lid is opened, but when it is desired to close the lid it is further raised to bring the pin out of the slot and past the member f, which then covers the slot and prevents its re-engagement with pin as the lid is closed. The member f may have a notch g on its edge to engage positively with the pin as the lid is closing, or the edge may be cam-shaped, with or without an adjacent stop pin on the arm a to limit its upward movement. The pawl e may move in a slot formed in the stay bar, as shown in Fig. 5. A notch : i is provided to limit the opening movement of the bar a when the lid is raised. Spring-operated pawLs may also be used. A plurality of pawls and slots may be employed in combination.
