Abstract
164,618. Graham, E. A., and Brockies, A. C. June 1, 1920. Stays.-To limit the angular movement of furniture parts such as lids or covers of receptacles, cabinets, pianos, &c., a stay arm 1, pivotally connected to the lid member, has laterallyprojecting pins 9, 9<a> on its lower end which engage with projections or ridges formed on and at opposite sides of a slotted gate member 7 secured to the receptacle 8, when the lid is raised sufficiently, further opening movement of the lid dragging the pins 9, 9<a> through the gate member until they are in position to drop through the end slot 14, when the lid may be closed. The underside of the cover 10 of the gate member 7 is formed with a projection 11 to engage the pin 9 and arrest the opening movement of the lid, which is then held in the open position by the other pin 9<a> engaging behind a ridge 13 on the other side of the central slot of the gate member. To close the lid, it is pushed upwardly so that the pin 9<a> rides over the ridge 15 and allows the stay arm pins to drop through the sloi 14. A curved spring arm 16 is provided to guide the stay pins into the front end of the slot 6 during the opening movement. In a modified construction, the gate member has projecting metal tongues instead of ridge members.
