Abstract

Stays.-For holding in the open position and releasing by a fur ther opening move ment the hinged bars of cabinets and boxes the stay a pivotally attached to the lid is slotted in the manner shown for engagement with a fixed pin f. When the lid is first opened, the bar passes over the pin until movement is stopped by the engagement of the pin with the bottom of the slot g, by then releasing or lowering the lid the pin is guided into engagement with the recess i to hold the lid open. To close the lid it is first opened sufficiently for the pin to pass into the mouth e<1> of the slot e, when the lid may be closed freely. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the notch i is enlarged and the projection serves as a stop in the movement of raising the lid slightly before closing it.
