Abstract
212,082. Collins, N., Collins, A. L., and Columbia Graphophone Co., Ltd. Feb. 19, 1923. Stays.-The lid of a box, gramophone, cabinet, and the like is held in the open position by a stay c which is pressed by a spring h into a position for engaging a slotted guide-plate b when the lid is opened sufficiently and then released, a further opening movement of the lid placing the parts into a position whereby the lid can then be freely closed. To the lid d is attached a casing g containing a spring h engaging a lever g<2> mounted on the same pivot f as the upper end of the stay c. The lower end of the stay is notched, and when the lid is closed the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 3. On raising the lid into the open position, the spring g forces the lower end of the stay to the left and the hook c<4> engages a hole b<1> in the plate b. If the lid is released the hook c<2> engages the other side of the hole b<1> and the lid is held open. In this position, the weight of the lid forces the pivot f to the upper end of the slot e in the stay-bar, the arm g<1> of the lever g' then registering with the slot c<1> of the stay so that, when the lid is again lifted, the stay swings freely into a position at the other end of the slot in the guide plate. The further opening movement of the lid is thus stopped and at it may then be closed freely.
