Abstract

355,396. Automatic stays for lids &c. STANLEY WORKS (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd., 35, Upper Thames Street, London, and DIEMOND, C., Velbert, Rhineland, Germany. June 4, 1930, No. 17237. [Class 65 (i).] A stay device for hinged lids, doors, windows and the like comprises a bar h having a pivot pin j slidable in a groove or slot k in a fixed plate m, the pin j being adapted to engage in a recess p to hold open the lid and, on a slight further opening of the lid, to pass into the part q of the slot and engage in a recess t in a pivoted arm s adapted to guide the pin j past the recess p during the closing movement of the lid. The arm s is provided with a catch u adapted to engage in a recess v in the plate m. The slot k is formed with a nose w for guiding the pin into the recess p and is enlarged at n<1> to permit of the insertion of the pin. The bar h may be pivoted directly to the lid, or connected thereto by a short pivoted bar a, a spring washer being provided. In the form shown, the bars a, h are adapted to be swung outwardly from the lid by means of a cam surface z on the plate m.
