Abstract
426,916. Casement windows; sliding- doors. BIEL, H., 3, Victoriastrasse, Itzehoe, Germany. Sept. 11, 1934, No. 26113. [Class 20 (iii)] A window comprising one or more horizontally sliding and pivoting sashes which lie in the same plane as adjacent hinged or other sashes when closed has top guides 8, 9, 10, for the hangers of the supporting rollers 25, 28, Figs. 2, 7, 8, the branch 9 permitting the rear meeting edge to be swung inwardly and slidden along the guide 8, the hanger stem finally engaging a socketted plate 12. The sash then is adapted to pivot and the forward hanger stem passes through the branch guide 10. The movements at the bottom of the sash are controlled by a fixed guide 22 and a pin 35 on the sash for the swinging movement and a fixed stop 17 and a slot 31 in the sash for the sliding movement. The pin 35 enters a socket 21 having a flared opening 20, Fig. 14 for the pivoting movement. During pivoting the sash is retained by an eccentric pin which rotates with the stem 25 in the quadrant 13, Fig. 2 at the upper end and by an elongated part of the pin 35 in the opening 21 at the lower end. Wear plates 11, Fig. 2 and 17 are provided to protect the guide 8 at the junctions with the branches 9, 10. Upper and lower cams 14, 16, are provided to engage a bracket and a curved edge of the grooved member 31 respectively to effect a tight closure. In the neighbourhood of the branches 9, 10 guide strips are provided to engage grooves 40 in the supporting rollers. The branch guide 10 may be closed at the end the guide roller being then mounted on a spring-controlled stem and depressed out of the guide before pivoting the sash.
