Abstract

400,065. Hinges. COX, T. R., 9, Norton Road, Winton, Bournemouth. Feb. 25, 1933, No. 5772. [Class 65 (ii).] A hinging arrangement for casement windows or fanlights is designed to allow the window to slide towards the centre of the frame when, and only when, opened substantially at right-angles to the frame, the window being maintained substantially in the same position during the sliding movement. The top and bottom members of the window frame (or the side members in the case of a fanlight) are provided with slotted metal plates 2, and the window is provided with a pair of studs 7 to engage with each slotted plate 2, the studs being connected by a plate 11 underneath the plate 2 and carrying rollers or washers to ease movement along the slots 5. In the closed position of the window, one stud 7 rests in the recess 5b at the right-hand end of the slot 5 and the other at the end of the arcuate branch slot 5a ; in opening, the second-mentioned stud moves along the slot 5a into the main slot, the window pivoting about the stud in the recess 5b, and then both studs move along the slot 5. The slot 5a is also provided with a recess 5c at the end, to allow the window to be drawn tightly against the frame member 15, for example by a member 14, screwed on a stud fixed to the window, engaging a plate 13, notched to receive the stud, on the frame.
