Variable-speed gearing of the type comprising a number of gear-wheels D, secured to a shaft B and in permanent mesh with an equal number uf gear-wheels E, loose on a second shaft C and capable of being clutched thereto by a movable key F. The sliding key is attached to a clutch @@ whereby the shaft may be run when the key is inoperative.
