Abstract

Controlling variablespeed gearing.-In a gear-box of the type in which a body part is closed by two end plates, the plates with bosses are identical but the bosses are drilled differently according to the end for which the plate is required. The end plates B, C, Figs. 1 and 3, are spigotted into the body part A and are secured by bolts D and positioned by studs D<2>. In one end plate the boss F<2> is drilled and in the other plate the boss F<3>, so that the two holes will face one another and support the reversing shaft. The selector rods are carried in the bosses F and are fitted with identical striking forks. The selector rods are made with turned grooves engaged by a spring stop and may be turned round so that the stop engages a fresh part of the groove when worn. A bracket for a ball support N may be provided.
