Variable-speed friction gearing comprising a disc a driving a movable roller b is mounted upon a rigid bed-plate j adapted to be fitted to the chassis of a motor-vehicle. The disc a has a central loose plate a<3> with a backing a<1> of fibre &c. for taking the drive up gradually. A spring h maintains the roller in contact with the disc. The roller b is operated from a lever d, and power is transmitted from a sprocket k.
