Abstract
138,429. Blakoe, R. Feb. 12, 1919 Change-speed and reversing gearing.-The rear axle N is fitted with two splined friction disks F, F<1> for forward and reverse drive respectively, the disks F, F<1> being driven from an horizontal disk C mounted in a frame M on the rear axle. The disk C is driven by a disk E on the propeller shaft L and is normally pressed into driving engagement therewith by a spring on the upper end of its shaft; for raising the disk C out of driving engagement, a cam engaging the lower end of the shaft and operated by a lever A is provided. The disks F, F<1> are moved along the rear axle to vary the speed by levers G, H. In a modification, the disk C is driven by an horizontal disk driven from the propeller shaft by bevel-gearing.
